Getting your phone ready for a repair
Most repairs never touch your data, but five minutes of preparation stops a repair taking longer than it needs to. This is what we would ask you if you walked in unprepared.
The checklist
Make a backup, even for a screen repair. Write down your passcode, because without unlocking we cannot test sensors, touch and camera, and you would only find out at home whether everything works. Take out your SIM and any memory card if you would rather keep them yourself. Remove the case and a cracked screen protector in advance. And be aware that on some devices we ask you to switch off the find-my feature temporarily, otherwise the phone stays locked after a restart.
What not to do
Do not factory reset your device hoping the problem disappears, certainly not if you still need the data. And do not try to prise the screen off with a kitchen knife: we see the marks weekly, and it turns a simple repair into an expensive one when cables or brackets get damaged. Come in with the device still closed.
