A lithium-ion battery is a consumable. After roughly five hundred full charge cycles — around two years for most people — a battery retains about eighty percent of its original capacity. From that point you notice it not only in runtime but in performance: the device cannot deliver enough current under peak load, so it throttles or shuts down.

What we check before replacing the battery
Not every drain problem is a battery problem. We first read out the cycle count and health, and measure idle current draw. If consumption is high while the battery is healthy, we keep looking: an app running in the background, a faulty sensor keeping the device awake, or leakage current from corrosion after liquid damage. That prevents you from buying a new battery for a fault that lives somewhere else.
Part notices after replacement
Some manufacturers, Apple in particular, show a notice after a battery swap saying the part cannot be verified as genuine, and sometimes hide the health readout. That is a software pairing between battery and mainboard, not an indication of quality or safety. We explain in advance what to expect on your specific model, so nothing catches you off guard.
