Buttons look like a small component, but a failed power button makes a device practically unusable: you cannot restart it, cannot take a screenshot and sometimes cannot even wake it. A volume key that presses itself will also send the phone into recovery mode unprompted or keep changing the volume.
The cause is usually not the metal key on the outside but the flex cable with the switch beneath it, or a deformed frame after a drop that leaves the button jammed.

The vibration motor and haptic feedback
Modern devices no longer use a spinning weight but a linear motor driven by a magnetic spring. That produces the short, dry tap you feel when typing. When it fails you not only miss notifications in your pocket; on some devices you also lose the tactile confirmation for fingerprint recognition and virtual buttons. A button jammed by a bent frame
If the device has been dropped and the button has not sprung back since, the frame is often slightly dented. A new flex cable will not solve that.
