We fully disassemble the device and disconnect the battery immediately, so no current runs across the affected traces. Then we assess the board under a microscope: where are the salt deposits, which connectors have gone green, is a trace already broken. The board then goes through an ultrasonic bath with dedicated cleaning fluid, is dried, and is touched up under the soldering microscope where needed.

Only then do we bring the device up on a bench power supply under controlled conditions, so we can watch current draw before the battery goes back in. A short circuit shows up on the meter rather than as smoke.

Liquid damage is the one repair where we cannot guarantee an outcome. A device that arrives within a day has considerably better odds than one that spent three weeks in a cupboard. Salt water is harsher than tap water, and soft drinks or coffee leave sugars that are especially stubborn. After the first inspection we tell you what we expect and where the limit sits, rather than selling you hope.

Even then there is often something to do: in many cases we can reach the storage to recover your photos and messages, or get the device running just long enough for one final backup. For most people that matters more than the handset itself.
